Armor Replica: Macedonian

At the left, "Stratokles" is armed and armored similarly to the way the fighters in Alexander the Great's Phalanx would have been armed and armored.

By Alexander's time the soldiers in the Phalanx had discarded armor for the arms and upper legs that had been worn by some during earlier times.

The dished shield is rimless and smaller than the earlier hoplon. The shield was also strapped to allow a two handed grip on the longer heavier spear.

The helmet and greaves are hammered yellow brass. (I did some Roman armor for an archeologist from Arizona. He requested that I use yellow brass because its metallurgical content was very similar to the "bronze" used for Greek and Roman armor.) The helmet is very close fitting.
